An eight-year-old boy is on life support after a statue fell on him at an exclusive Arizona resort.

Officials said the child is in 'extremely critical' condition after the tragic incident on Wednesday morning at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix.

The boy reportedly suffered a serious head injury when pieces of concrete landed on him.

It's unclear if there was a parent or guardian watching him when the incident happened.

'Our top priority is the safety of our guests, and our thoughts are with the family impacted by today’s events,' the resort said in a statement to Arizona Family.

Authorities said they still don't know what caused the statue to fall on the boy.

They said they don't suspect foul play and are expected to release more information later on Wednesday.

Local media captured footage of the scene, which shows a statue standing while another is in pieces on the floor.

The Arizona Biltmore is famous for the statues - called the 'Solemn Sprite' statues.

'Nestled within the scenic beauty of the Arizona Biltmore lies a captivating tale that ties together Greek mythology, artistic legacy, and the secret guardianship of the earth,' the resort's website reads.

'The 19 Solemn Sprite statues that grace the grounds hold a history as rich and intriguing as the land they watch over.'

They were a collaboration between iconic American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and artist Alfonso Ianelli.

They were originally designed for the Midway Gardens in Chicago but were gifted to the resort in 1985.
