Britons warned Andy Burnham could rejoin the EU 'without their will' in Brexit U-turn: 'Utter betrayal!'

Sitting down with GB News Political Editor Christopher Hope today, Mr Burnham confirmed he will consider the option of rejoining the European Union in a major Brexit U-turn.

The PM told the People's Channel: "We'll look at all options. George Osborne's put an option forward, Canada have talked about a different relationship with the European Union.

"I can't leave Britain out of those discussions. We do have to have an honest and grown-up conversation about well, what could a future relationship look like?

"And then come back to the public and say, well, here are the broad options, and here are the issues involved with each of them. That's just the right way to lead. I've got to do what's best for this country."

Hitting out at Mr Burnham's remarks, Ms Pochin said the PM has previously declared he would not rejoin the bloc.

She said: "I've got a quote here, he said in that Makerfield by-election, 'I am not proposing the UK considers rejoining the EU'. So what we've just witnessed there is a completely disingenuous Prime Minister who promised one thing only eight weeks ago in that campaign and is now saying something else.

"And I completely agree with the fact that he could take us back into the EU without the will of the British people behind him, and do you know what? That would be an utter betrayal of democracy.

"Because we voted out and we have never, ever made the most of being out of Europe, because the politicians will not enact all the good things that we could have."

The Reform UK MP questioned why the Labour Government would want the UK to return to the EU in the first place.

Ms Pochin argued: "The point that must be made is, why would we want to go back in? The growth rate in Germany is lower than us, the growth rate in France is lower than us.

"Those key countries, Germany itself, now with its potential change of government potentially, will look at coming out itself. There's no EU at all without Germany.

"This is a completely ridiculous situation now where why would we want to rejoin something that actually is not performing as well as the UK is after Brexit?"

Asked by host Martin Daubney whether the PM is now "occupying the space to the left and trying to isolate a divided right", Ms Pochin said he is "trying to look elsewhere" to shore up the Labour vote.

She said: "What I do think is that Burnham is fully aware now that the traditional Labour working class vote, if we can put it that way, hard working people, alarm clock Britain as we call them, are very much looking to Reform now to place their vote.

"And I think Andy Burnham is very aware that he has to look elsewhere to shore up his Labour vote, and that is why he is taking in that middle Liberal, very left Labour like, say, rejoining the EU.

"But of course, also embracing very much the community that we are seeing. The Muslim community, the Muslim vote that we talk about."

She added: "Look at our Foreign Secretary, glad-handing the Iranian Foreign Secretary.

"They are not friends, they are enemies only days or virtually at the same time that we are up against the threat that we have seen at the as yet unexplained incident at RAF Fairford."
