Chad Lowe’s family: Meet actor’s wife Kim Painter and daughters Mabel, Fiona and Nixie

Chad Lowe and wife Kim Painter welcomed three daughters after their love story began in 2009 — and tragically lost their middle child, daughter Fiona, in September 2026 at age 13.

The “deeply heartbroken” couple confirmed the news in a statement about the “smart, creative” teen.

The duo are also the parents of daughters Mabel and Nixie.

Lowe and Painter have been married since August 2010, with their union marking the actor’s second marriage.

Rob Lowe’s younger brother was previously married to Hilary Swank between 1997 and 2007.

Kim Painter

Chad and Painter went public with their romance in early 2007, on the heels of the “Life Goes On” alum finalizing his divorce from Swank.

The duo started their family before walking down the aisle in Los Angeles in August 2010.

Chad dubbed his partner the “best mom ever” in a May 2026 Instagram caption, reading, “Our girls are so lucky to have you as their momma bear!! And, I’m so lucky to have you as a partner on this crazy journey called parenthood! Your are so loved❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

When the couple lost their California home to a wildfire in January 2025, Chad told his social media followers that their bond held strong “through the good times and bad times.”

Painter, according to her LinkedIn, formerly worked as late Carrie Fisher’s executive assistant.

Her Instagram profile is private, but, per her husband’s account, Painter is a “rad surfer.”

Mabel Lowe

Chad and Painter’s eldest child, Mabel, was born in May 2009 — and, adorably, was the ring bearer at their nuptials the following year.

When Mabel turned 16 in 2025, her dad gushed via social media about his “thoughtful, smart, talented, kind hearted, beautiful” daughter’s milestone moment.

“I couldn’t be more proud of you and I couldn’t love you any more!!” he wrote at the time.

Mabel has made rare red carpet appearances with her parents and siblings over the years.

Fiona Hepler Lowe

Fiona joined the family in February 2012, and her middle name honors Chad’s late mom, Barbara Lynn Wilson, who died in 2003.

When she turned 13 in February 2026, Chad wrote, “Celebrating Fiona officially becoming a teen today!! Keep dancing through life FiBear! Love you soooo much!!”

In a statement mourning the teen seven months later, Chad and Painter remembered Fiona as “a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance.”

They added, “She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives. Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”

They have yet to comment further on Fiona’s passing.

Nixie Barbara Lowe

Nixie was born in March 2016, and her middle name is also an homage to her late grandmother.

Her first name, notably, is a reference to Germanic folklore water spirits, which Chad called “a good fit” because he and Painter are avid surfers.

While Nixie was “a little early,” her parents confirmed she was “small and mighty” and “all [was] well” in a statement at the time.

On her 12th birthday, Chad wrote that his youngest child’s “beautiful soul shines her light on all she meets.”
