It is one of the most recognizable neighborhoods in the world and a byword for sun-splashed luxury with stunning views of the Pacific.
But much of the eastern end of Malibu now lies in ruins due to the Palisades Fire, with many of its eye-catching beachfront homes and swanky restaurants now in ruins.
Celebrity haunt Moonshadows Malibu was among the restaurants lost, as was local landmark The Reel Inn.
Both had starry regulars: Kamala Harris, Cindy Crawford and Paris Hilton were all fans of The Reel Inn while Moonshadows was adored by Mel Gibson, Kim Kardashian and Britney Spears among others.
The eateries are among the 1,280 buildings destroyed by the fire which is still burning and is only 14 percent contained.
But while the loss of the restaurants has hit locals hard, for many, their homes are gone too – including some of the spectacular beach homes lining the sand that were as much a Malibu landmark as the Topanga Canyon Motel that also burned.
From cozy family homes to glamorous properties with serious Hollywood pedigree, DailyMail.com assesses the damage.
THE MUCH-LOVED FAMILY HOME
With its sun-splashed wooden deck with steps leading directly onto the beach, 21506 was once an idyllic home for Tina Segel, 63, and her family.
But now the property lies in blackened ruins, as does her parents’ neighboring house. Like her celebrity neighbors Paris Hilton and Candy Spelling, little is left of the 50-year Malibu resident’s $4m four-bedroom home.
On Friday, the former news anchor and her daughter Katie and son Henry were allowed back into Malibu to see the remains of their residence, where they were photographed by DailyMail.com as they scoured the wreckage for anything left intact – among them a cross-shaped candle holder.
And miraculously, their paper mail inside the mailbox came out of the blaze unscathed.
The Segel family had owned their Malibu waterfront property for 50 years when it was wiped out by the blazing Palisades inferno

HOLLYWOOD MOM’S FORMER HOME
One of the most glamorous homes on the Pacific Coast Highway, white-painted 21644 was once owned by South African star Charlize Theron’s mother Garda Maritz.
Maritz has since moved to a $3.3m home in LA’s Studio City neighborhood.
Now a smoldering pile of rubble, before the Palisades fire, the $7.9m home had stunning ocean views and direct access to the beach.
The four-bedroom property also boasted a chef’s kitchen, a lush garden complete with its own waterfall and a deck overlooking the Pacific.

PALACE FIT FOR A PLAYWRIGHT
A four-bedroom beach house, 22048 has had some illustrious owners - among them the late Canadian playwright and screenwriter Bernard Slade and his actress wife Jill Foster.
Foster famously starred as Betty in Bewitched while Slade’s portfolio included creating sitcoms The Flying Nun and The Partridge Family.
More recently, the home has been occupied by entertainment executive Bryan Turner who launched the careers of Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg among many others.

THE ART COLLECTOR’S ABODE
Unlike many Pacific Coast Highway homes, 22240 does not have a celebrity pedigree and was owned by luxury furnishing boss Melvin Rosenthal who died in 2022 at the age of 93, leaving the house to his son Larry.
Along with an eye for quality home décor, Rosenthal had another talent - for art collecting with nine works by 20th century masters Ed Ruscha, Hans Hoffman and Robert Motherwell sold off at auction in New York after his death.
The sheer heat of the Palisades Fire split the home in half.
