A Texas college football player has been charged with slamming his pregnant girlfriend onto the ground for refusing to take an abortion pill, according to a report.
Houston Cougars defensive linebacker Carmello Brooks, 19, clashed with his girlfriend, Nariah Harley, in his apartment on Thursday after learning she was expecting — a month after he was charged for being aggressive with a different pregnant woman, according to KTRK.
The 275-pound student-athlete allegedly squeezed Harley’s arms, slammed her to the ground — and then sat on her to pin her to the ground, a hearing officer testified in court Monday.
The clash followed Harley telling Brooks she wouldn’t take an abortion pill, KPRC reported.
Officers reported seeing visible injuries on the player’s pregnant girlfriend — but she has since denied he was at fault, and has pushed for her boyfriend’s charges to be dropped.
Harley said she would suffer “forever guilt” if it ended the teen’s prospect’s “football career,” after he was suspended from the University of Houston team.
She confirmed that they had an “argument at his apartment” — but blamed herself, telling KTRK that Brooks “told me to get out multiple times, and I would not get out.”
“He then just picked me up and gently put me out the apartment,” she said, claiming that the responding officer misunderstood, partly from seeing her bruised.
Brooks “actually called the police. He called 911 because I would not get out his apartment,” she insisted.
Brooks, of Katy, now faces a charge of assaulting a pregnant person. He was due in court Friday for a misdemeanor case where he allegedly clashed with another pregnant woman in August.
He went to her home before becoming “verbally aggressive towards her” and then trying to leave the property with her keys, according to police reports seen by KPRC.
The woman shut the door, which was damaged in the process. And, the “damage appeared consistent with the door handle having been forcefully pulled inward,” according to cops.
Brooks was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief in that case – an offense that can carry up to a year in jail depending on the damage.
Brooks was a three-star prospect while at high school and previously named the No. 100 defensive lineman nationally, according to his university bio.
“We are aware of an incident involving a Houston Football student-athlete. We take all allegations of this nature very seriously and are gathering more information,” a Houston Athletics spokesperson said.
