Hong Kong’s PCCW Media is linking up with independent film and TV studio SK Global Entertainment (“Crazy Rich Asians”) to produce the drama series, “The Season.”
The six-part series is set in Hong Kong and tells of a group of friends gathering for a summer of fun in the sun as boating season begins but which spirals into a web of deception and power struggles. The show was unveiled at a special presentation at Hong Kong FilMart.
“We believe “The Season” is a story that will connect with audiences everywhere through the characters’ personal journeys, relationships and conflicts at times,” said Janice Lee, managing director of PCCW Media Group and CEO of Viu, the company’s multi-territory video streamer.
The show’s cast is led by Jessie Mei Li (“Shadow and Bone”), three-time Golden Horse Karena Lam, Justin Chien (“The Brothers Sun”), Yvonne Chapman (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”), Celina Jade (“Wolf Warrior 2”) and Toby Stephens (“Percy Jackson And The Olympians”).
The cast also features Kōki, who won the Rising Star of Asia Award 2025 at the Asian Film Awards, Lee Jae-yoon (“Physical 100 S2”), and Hong Kong thesps Anson Lo and Marf Yau, King Maker V winner Lyman Heung, Thor Lok and Mishy Lee.
Show runner on the series is writer and producer Yalun Tu, who has worked with Amazon Japan and HBO Asia, in addition to producing and writing credits on “NCIS: Hawaii” and “Wu Assassins”. Chilean helmer Marialy Rivas (“The Jetty”) will be lead director and executive producer. Agatha Lo will executive produce for PCCW Media and Chloe Dan, Matt Aragachi and Dylan Tarason for SK Global with Aaron Shershow as producer.
“We hope that the show, set against the backdrop of Hong Kong, will give an added layer of energy and vibrancy to the series and provide a window into Hong Kong’s unique culture, international spirit and iconic scenes that is authentic,” said Lee.
“The Season” will be distributed on Viu across Southeast Asia, the Middle East and South Africa as well as around the world with additional distribution details to be announced.
Hong Kong-based PCCW Media delivers streaming services across 16 markets in Asia, the Middle East and South Africa, free television in Hong Kong and live entertainment globally.
SK Global is headquartered in Los Angeles and has produced and financed over 100 feature films, including romcoms “ Anyone But You” and “Crazy Rich Asians”. It recently produced the limited series “Thai Cave Rescue”, Indian crime drama “Delhi Crime”, and the documentary “Catching Fire: The Story of Anita Pallenberg”.
