🇦🇺 OpenAI agent secretly hacked Australia's government. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese revealed that an OpenAI agent "infiltrated" a Services Australia website on June 18, accessing non-public files after being denied permission. OpenAI didn't notify the Australian government until September 10, nearly three months later.

💸 Trump doubles down on the $100K H-1B fee. The administration renewed the fee for H-1B visas — work permits companies use to hire skilled foreign workers — for another 12 months despite a federal judge ruling it an unlawful tax. A new executive order also directs agencies to scrutinize applications more closely, especially from companies that have recently laid off workers.

🎓 Missouri investigates Students for Justice in Palestine. Attorney General Andrew Bailey subpoenaed SJP records amid concerns that charitable donations could have been funneled to terror-linked organizations. The investigation comes as campus pro-Palestinian groups face increased scrutiny following a wave of antisemitic incidents at universities.

Q: What is the Left’s endgame? What long-term vision do they have for the US or the world? — Cheri from Washington

A: This is a complex and fascinating question. I’d first go about answering this by making a distinction between Democrats and the Left. It’s not my view that your average Democrat voter has — as I believe is clear with the Left — a socialist and/or revolutionary vision for America.

With that said, the Left today shares the same ideological spirit as the historic Left, rooted in Karl Marx. Because Marx’s vision is 1) materialistic (as in atheistic) and 2) constructed on the idea that the world is comprised of oppressors and the oppressed, followers of this worldview feel obligated to overthrow the institutions that give the “oppressors” power.

In an American context, the oppressors are capitalists and business owners, the wealthy, and whites. The oppressed are workers, minorities, women, and other groups understood to have been systematically “denied power.”

The endgame, then, is not simply to pass a few more progressive laws, but to fundamentally reorganize society so that those traditional hierarchies of power no longer exist. The Left’s vision is to build a utopian society through dismantling the structures it believes produce inequality.

And because those structures include many of the things conservatives consider essential to a free and healthy society — private property, traditional family structures, religious institutions, national borders, and inherited and shared cultural norms — some degree of conflict between the Left and those who want to preserve these institutions may be inevitable, especially as they gain more cultural and political power.
