It’s feta’d to be!
Greek-American TV host Debbie Matenopoulos says she wants to be the next US ambassador to Greece because she’s written Greek cookbooks, among other things.
The former “View” co-host kicked off her Thursday morning by campaigning on social media to replace Kimberly Guilfoyle in the role, and later told Page Six she’s entirely serious about wanting the gig.
“No. 1, I speak the language. It was my first language before I even spoke English. No. 2, I have a Greek passport,” she said.
Matenopoulos added she own homes in Greece, in part, because her “entire family lives there,” with the exception of her immediate family.
“I understand the politics, the government, the people… and I love the country,” she said.
But perhaps the one qualification that will surely set her apart from any other potentials is, “I have two very successful, best selling Greek cookbooks,” she said. Additionally, “I have a very successful Greek skincare line,” she said.
“No disrespect to Kim,” she said, “You don’t need any qualifications to be an ambassador to any country… you just need to be an entrepreneur, a successful business woman or businessman, or political donor.”
And she’s serious.
“All of my journalism training and live TV skills have seriously prepared me more for this position than most,” she told Page Six.
She added, “You don’t need to have a life in politics to do this… I have 30 years of live TV experience. That’s well over 10,000 hours of speaking in front of people on massive scales, and also bringing people together and making them feel seen.”
Matenopolous told us friends have already reached out to Trump on her behalf and she’s already getting questions about representing the administration on an international scale. “This is not about a political party or an administration for that matter. It’s about building solid relations for both countries involved that go far beyong anyone’s time in the White House,” she said.
Meanwhile, Trump distanced himself from Guilfoyle after asking her to resign amid accusations that she solicited donors to pay off her personal bills, among other allegations. (She has vigorously denied those claims).
The president downplayed his relationship with her, despite her once being engaged to his Donald Jr. “She, I guess, dated my son a long time ago,” he said during a press briefing this week. “But she went to Greece. She was doing a good job, but we didn’t like what we were reading.”
We’ve heard Guilfoyle she’s on the prowl to meet a “rich European husband.”
