Supermassive Games is taking one of the most entertaining parts of playing Directive 8020 off the couch and bringing it online. In a post on X, the Directive 8020 developers announced that online co-op will finally be available for the space horror game this October.

Directive 8020 is the latest entry in Supermassive Games’ line of choice-focused horror experiences. Instead of playing a bunch of teenagers in a cabin in the woods, or a bunch of teenagers at a haunted summer camp, you take over the executive functions of a bunch of grown adults on a space colonization journey. As you near one of the prospective planets, space horror shenanigans ensue. Like in other Supermassive offerings, Directive 8020 allows for up to 5 players to make decisions for the cast of characters in Movie Night mode. However, the game didn’t launch with an online option, meaning if you wanted to play co-op you had to gather your comrades in meatspace to play.
Directive 8020 wasn’t one of Supermassive’s scariest offerings, receiving mixed reviews. After Supermassive underwent a round of layoffs in July of last year, the game was delayed from October 2025 into May 2026. And even after its launch, the studio once again held layoffs in August affecting roughly 75 employees.
Although there is no set date for when online co-op will launch, Supermassive says it’ll arrive in October, in time for all the spooky month celebrations.
