Dressmaker dev says he’s “peaked” with viral fashion game

A developer behind Dressmaker, the viral Steam game about sewing your own garments, has revealed he “couldn’t be more proud” of the game’s popularity.

Since its release on September 21, Dressmaker has quickly climbed to the top of Steam’s top sellers. In fact, the cosy game sits in seventh place behind popular PC gaming giants like Counter-Strike 2 and Wardogs.

Dressmaker’s popularity has surprised even the people who made it, with one developer admitting their career may have “peaked” again thanks to the popular crafting title.

Dressmaker dev wowed by game’s success

“I used to be worried that I peaked way too early in my career. Now it seems I may have peaked with a dressmaking game,” wrote Ruan Rothmann via X.

From the explosive action of Broforce to the brutal gladiator fights of GORN, Rothmann’s previous games are a world away from Dressmaker. However, that hasn’t made the cosier title’s success any less satisfying to him. “For the record, Dressmaker is awesome, and I couldn’t be more proud,” he added.

His tweet has since attracted comments from numerous fans, with many praising the game and its chill vibes. “Dressmaker scratches an itch that a lot of people either don’t know they had, or couldn’t scratch for the longest time. Very good game,” wrote one commenter.

“Lol, the Dressmaker game my daughter is playing (which she loves btw) was made by someone who worked on/made Broforce (which I loved a decade ago). The universe is a strange place,” added another.

As of writing, Dressmaker currently sits at ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ on the Steam Store and has over 4,000 reviews. The viral game also hit its all-time peak player count on September 27, when over 35,000 players logged in to try their hand at making the prettiest dresses.

Dressmaker isn’t the only surprise hit to top Steam’s charts this year, as Meccha Chamelion went viral after selling three million copies and reaching 340,534 players shortly after its June 10 launch.
