“The Day of the Jackal,” Peacock and Sky’s original thriller series starring Eddie Redmayne, has been renewed for a second season.
The series centers on the titular Jackal (Redmayne), a chameleon-like contract killer “who makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee,” as the show’s synopsis states. “But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer (Lashana Lynch), who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake.”
“The Day of the Jackal” launched Nov. 14 to critical and commercial acclaim and has sold to almost 200 territories around the world. In Variety‘s review, critic Aramide Tinubu called it a “truly engaging drama,” adding: “Meticulously presented and beautifully detailed, the series is a breathless adventure until the very end.”
The 10-episode series is currently airing, with the last episode set to premiere on Dec. 12.
Redmayne also serves as an executive producer on “The Day of the Jackal,” alongside writer Ronan Bennett and director Brian Kirk. Lynch and Marianne Buckland are co-executive producers. Other executive producers include Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant for Carnival Films, Sam Hoyle for Sky Studios and Sue Naegle. Frederick Forsyth is a consulting producer, and Chris Hall also produces.
Rounding out the cast are Úrsula Corberó, Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O’Neill, Nick Blood, Sule Rimi and Florisa Kamara.
“The Day of the Jackal” hails from Carnival Films, which is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution handles international sales.
