The Elevator Boys, the German content creators turned boy band, have released the trailer for their feature film debut, “Back to the 90s,” ahead of the movie’s premiere on Aug. 21.
The German-language Prime Video movie follows five best friends — Matteo (Julien Brown), Jonas (Tim Schäcker), Chris (Luis Freitag), Ben (Jacob Rott) and Oliver (Bene Schulz) — who are about to fulfill their dream of making it as a boy band when one member suddenly wants to throw it all away. Things take a turbulent turn when the group finds itself transported — via an elevator, of course — back to 1995.
The trailer shows the band partying like its, well, 1995, trying to use older model Apple computers and finding romance during their time-traveling adventure.
Rounding out the cast are Felicitas Woll, Anja Pichler, Luise Aschenbrenner, Sidney Fahlisch, Helena von Have and Derya Akyol. The title track, “1995,” was written by songwriter and Take That frontman Gary Barlow.
The German Prime Original film is produced by W&B Television (a Leonine Studios company and part of the Mediawan Group) in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios Germany for Prime Video. The film is directed by Facundo Scalerandi, based on an idea and screenplay by Juliana Lima Dehne. Johanna Bergel, Benjamin Benedict and Quirin Berg serve as producers, with Ralf Zimmermann as executive producer. The creative team also includes ]director of photography Borris Kehl, costume designer Kaya Kürten, production designer Cora Pratz and makeup artist Kim Deguara.
The Elevator Boys launched in 2021 with viral elevator videos. Since then, they have amassed 48 million followers across social media. Their first EP, “Scared to Love,” was released via their own label in 2024. Their rendition of “Jingle Bell Rock” has been streamed more than 25 million times.
A video of the Elevator Boys slicing a cake that resembled Heidi Klum’s head at the supermodel’s Halloween party last year went viral when it was posted by Variety on X. It has been watched close to 11 million times.
