The U.S. government’s wide-ranging funding of experiments or performing experiments with dangerous viruses was more irresponsible than originally thought.
U.S. funding of gain-of-function research in a Chinese lab in Wuhan, which was partly responsible for the global Covid-19 plague, is widely known. Not so well known is something found in Dr. Anthony Fauci’s diary.
The disgraced former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, Just the News has reported, was “alarmed” to learn U.S. Army scientists had experimented on animals with an aerosolized Ebola virus.
GOP Senator Rand Paul released excerpts of the diary that revealed the hare-brained scheme.
Zika and Ebola Trials
The excerpts in which Fauci expressed concern and called Army scientists “idiots” concern two viruses, Zika and Ebola.
Zika is a mosquito-borne pathogen that causes flu-like symptoms that can also spread through sexual contact.
Ebola disease is a sometimes fatal viral hemorrhagic fever. Scientists discovered it in 1976 after an outbreak in the Congo. Caused by an orthoebolavirus, the disease spreads from animals to humans. It spreads from one person to another through contact with bodily fluids, including objects contaminated with them. An outbreak is ongoing in the Congo.
Thus, Fauci’s concern “in 2016 that the Army medical research arm’s experiment seemed to show that exposure to aerosolized Ebola caused more damaging effects in subjects that had been vaccinated,” Just the News reported:
This was almost four years before he championed shutting down the U.S. economy and social life over the COVID-19 virus outbreak.
Diary entries dated March 7 and 9 and an email dated March 11 detail Fauci’s alarm about the experiments.
“Spoke with Amy Pope about a crazy situation where USAMRIID did an aerosolized challenge of Zika in NHPs and showed that the VSV vaccine did not protect (no surprise),” Fauci wrote on March 7:
However, they showed that although the 2 control animals died and 16 of 20 vaccinated animals died, there was more inflammation in the lungs of the vaccinated animals — implying that vaccination is bad. The US Embassy and the Liberian and Guinea and Sierra Leone officials are going batsh*t because we are planning to do vaccine studies there and use the VSV as ring vaccine if other outbreaks occur. What idiots those guys at USAMRIID are. This should have been a classified experiment that never should have been done in the first place. Now I have to speak with the NSC from the SKIF tomorrow to pick up the doo-doo and explain why this is an irrelevant Experiment.
USAMIRIID is the acronym for the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases. NHPs are non-human primates. VSV is the acronym for vesicular stomatitis virus, which is used to carry other more dangerous pathogens into the human body. Ring vaccination targets people who are most likely to become infected with a disease. The NSC is the National Security Council. SCIF — misspelled as SKIF — is an acronym for sensitive compartmented information facility, where conversations are secure.
On March 9, Fauci continued, adding this concern about an aerosolized Ebola virus:
Zika frenzy continues. Had teleconference in the SCIF with WH, CIA, NIA, DoD HHS regarding an experiment that the USAMRIID did that challenged NHPs with aerosolized Ebola to see if the VSV vaccine protected. Obviously, it did not. Stupid experiment. However, they also found in the 2 control animals (they had 2 controls and 22 vaccinated), even though they died, that they did NOT have inflammation in the lung. However, the vaccinated animals had necrosis, inflammation and fibrin in the lungs. This should have been a classified experiment. The foolish DOD people send the data to the FDA and then circulated as FYI to various embassies including those in West Africa where we are about to engage on a much larger DSD vaccine trial for Ebola. The embassies in West Africa (Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone) as you might expect went bonkers since it looks like we’re going to vaccinate people with the dangerous vaccine.
Fauci Wants Answers
On March 11, Fauci complained in an email that he must meet with top national security officials to discuss the madness. Fauci threatened to fire anyone who didn’t tell him the whole truth about any involvement by his agency, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease.
“I need to speak with you this morning before 10:00 AM,” Fauci wrote to Michael Kurilla, then head of NIAID’s Office of Biodefense Research Resources and Translational Research.
“I need all of the specific information about our involvement in the Ebola NHP challenge studies,” Fauci continued:
1) What is the nature of our collaboration with the DoD on these studies?
2) Did any NIAID money at all go into the performance of the aerosolized challenge studies?
3) If not aerosolized experiments, then what kind of experiments did we fund?
4) Who at NIAID is the responsible program person for those studies?
5) If we participated in those studies, did anyone not realize that they likely would be classified?
I have to meet with the NSC people later this AM. And so, please, please make sure that you or the people from whom you get this information tell me the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Do not tell me what you think I want to hear or hold back what you think will upset me. No one will get hurt if they made a mistake, but then they told me the truth. If someone does not tell me the truth and I find out they did not, then they are gone. Please find out the correct information before I report to the White House.
Senator Paul, who’s been chasing Fauci like Ahab chased Moby Dick, told the website that the entries suggest the government was hiding the perilous work instead of stopping it.
“These records show NIAID was funding risky research with the Defense Department, and when the results turned problematic, Dr. Fauci argued they should have been classified,” Paul told Just The News:
The email he sent demanding answers went to his longtime special assistant, who has since declined to answer the Committee’s questions.
