"True greatness in John's example, is found not in drawing attention to ourselves, but in helping others see something greater. Luke concludes by saying the child grew and waxed strong in spirit. Purpose often unfolds gradually. Growth comes before influence.

"Preparation comes before fulfilment. The story of John reminds us that every life has seasons of becoming, and that God works patiently through it all. Let's pray. Faithful God, thank you for the example of John the Baptist.

"Help us to grow in wisdom and in strength, and to fulfil the purpose you have entrusted for each one of us. In Jesus name, Amen."
