GB News has won the Tric Award for Best News Programme for the fourth consecutive year after an outpouring of support from viewers for The People's Channel.

The broadcaster triumphed over BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain and ITV Evening News at the 2026 Television and Radio Industries Club Awards, held at Grosvenor House in London on Tuesday evening.

The annual ceremony, hosted by Tric President Dan Walker, celebrates the UK's favourite television, radio, streaming and online personalities and programmes, with winners determined largely by a public vote.

GB News Breakfast once again emerged victorious, extending its remarkable winning streak and cementing its status as one of the country's most popular news programmes.

The channel's presenters and staff were out in force at the star-studded event, which brought together some of the biggest names in British broadcasting.

The win comes as GB News celebrates its fifth anniversary, having grown from a disruptive newcomer in 2021 into an award-winning broadcaster with a loyal and engaged audience.

GB News Breakfast has become one of the broadcaster's flagship programmes since launching in 2021, with viewers tuning in each morning for a mix of breaking news, political interviews and lively debate.

The programme is currently fronted by Eamonn Holmes and Ellie Costello from Monday to Wednesday, with Stephen Dixon and Ellie taking the reins on Thursdays and Fridays.

This year's nomination came after a challenging period for the show following Eamonn's stroke in April, which forced the veteran broadcaster to step away temporarily for hospital treatment and recovery.

Fellow presenter Alex Armstrong stepped in to co-host alongside Ellie during his absence, earning praise from viewers as he helped steer the programme through one of its busiest periods.

GB News presenter Nana Akua reflected on the channel's journey while speaking to GB News on the red carpet before the ceremony.

"What I do when I'm here, at these moments, is throw it back to what it was like five years ago, when we were booed and hissed," she said.

"I remember walking in at the beginning and no one was really looking. Now, it's changed."

Nana also paid tribute to viewers who have supported the channel since its launch.

"Thank you for taking no notice of the nonsense that's been thrown out there, everyone else calling us far-right and everything else like that.

"I'm glad you were prepared to listen and give us a chance. We appreciate you very much."

Also speaking on the red carpet before the ceremony, GB News presenter Patrick Christys hailed the broadcaster's connection with its audience and praised the team behind the award-winning breakfast show.

"It's absolutely massive," he said of the prospect of a fourth straight victory.

"A lot of this is voted for by the public and by the viewers and listeners, which is really, really great.

"We don't take a single viewer or listener for granted."

GB News Breakfast presenters Alex and Ellie thanked viewers for their unwavering support ahead of the ceremony.

"We've got the best viewers in the world, haven't we?" Alex said.

"The most loyal viewers, the best viewers... and we can't do it without them."

Ellie added: "I think we are unique at GB News in the way that our viewers are really central to everything that we do.

"We always read their comments, we have viewers on all the time, and talk to them about our stories.

"It's so nice to have something back like a Tric Award that recognises the hard work that we try and do every single year."

The ceremony featured a live performance from music legends Shalamar and raised vital funds for Tric's charity partner Refuge, as well as charity campaign Bright Young Dreams.

Tric said the awards continue to reflect "the nation's favourite shows, presenters and digital talent", with winners chosen by the viewing and listening public.
