Green activist hits back at Donald Trump’s ‘no-go zones’ remark despite a third of Britons backing the claim

“Like any city, there are parts of London which are rough where, you know, you wouldn't send your kids there unaccompanied because, you know, it's slightly dangerous,” the Green Party Official began.

Nevertheless, Mr McCarthy declared: “Before Mr Trump starts chatting about us, I think he needs to get his own act in order.”

“America is more dangerous than we are by kind of every metric,” he insisted.

The London Green argued that the capital is compared favourably with American cities, saying residents were more likely to be murdered in New Hampshire, the safest US state, than in London.

He also pointed to the difference between London and New York, claiming that while the capital has a knife crime problem, people are more likely to be stabbed in New York, where residents also face the additional threat of gun crime.

“It’s kind of ridiculous that the president is trying to talk us down like this,” Mr McCarthy said.

He accused Mr Trump and other commentators of “completely blowing the problems that we have completely out of whack”.

In a world exclusive interview with GB News last week, US President Donald Trump warned that the capital has become a "much different place", ravaged by "very high" levels of crime.

He told The People's Channel: “You have areas in Paris and London where the police don’t want to even go in them; there’s no law and order.

"They’re afraid to go in them. Either they’re afraid, or they just don’t; you know, they don’t want to lose their life.”

He added: "London was a very safe place, and now you have a different culture that has entered... It's a different culture, different people."

It has now been revealed that a significant minority of Britons agreed with the US leader and feared “no-go” zones existed in London.

A survey of more than 2,000 UK adults, carried out in March and published today, has revealed that 34 per cent of the public believe there are areas of the capital where non-Muslims cannot enter.

A slightly higher proportion (36 per cent) disagreed, and around a fifth said they did not even know whether this was the case.
