Rockstar Games has confirmed some of GTA 6’s most ambitious gameplay features, revealing a more reactive version of Vice City filled with realistic NPCs, changing character bodies, deeper relationships, and working social media feeds.
Many of these systems had previously appeared through leaks. Amazon Brazil and another retailer claimed the game would include advanced NPC intelligence, character switching, social networks, dynamic weather, and a denser open world.
Separate leaks linked to former Rockstar employees also described missions featuring both Jason and Lucia, alongside hundreds of stores, vehicle weapon storage, and a returning six-star Wanted level.
Now, an exclusive Dazed report featuring interviews with senior Rockstar developers has directly confirmed several features while revealing new information about how Leonida responds to players.
Rockstar devs reveal advanced GTA 6 gameplay features
Rockstar says GTA 6 will be more grounded and reactive than its predecessors. Players will no longer be able to move through the city without consequences, as carrying a rifle in public will cause the surrounding world to respond.
NPCs have been designed to look, move, interact, and express themselves more naturally. Leonida’s population will include different ages, heights, body types, tattoos, piercings, plastic surgery, and fashion choices.
Rockstar GamesTheir appearances will also reflect where they live. Residents of Vice City’s Little Cuba will look and dress differently from people encountered around the wilderness of Mount Kalaga National Park.
GTA 6 characters will gain weight and build muscle
GTA 6 expands the body transformation systems introduced in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Food will affect Jason and Lucia’s weight, while exercising will visibly build and tone their muscles. Spending long periods away from bed, whether while hiding from police or going on a several day bender, will also alter their facial features.
This means players’ habits will be reflected directly through the protagonists rather than existing as invisible statistics. Haircuts, outfits, fitness, food, sleep, and other lifestyle choices will all contribute to how Jason and Lucia appear.
“We want to enable as much self-expression as possible, without losing the essence of the characters,” Rockstar North head of development Rob Nelson explained.
Jason and Lucia’s relationship will also affect gameplay. Players can have the pair operate together or head off independently, with a fluid switching system allowing control to move between them during missions and free roam.
One example has Jason driving along a highway while Lucia uses the in-game phone from the passenger seat. If a police chase begins, players can switch between driving and firing at pursuers through the window.
Rockstar GamesThe pair can also ride together on vehicles such as jet skis, with animations changing to reflect their relationship. Rockstar says player choices involving Jason and Lucia can carry consequences deeper than those found in its previous morality or Honor systems.
Social media will be another major part of Leonida. Players can browse working feeds through the phone, while the rise of rap duo Real Dimez will unfold through viral posts.
Previous retailer listings claimed the networks would let players track influencers, discover events, and potentially locate secret side quests. Dazed does not confirm every one of those details, but it verifies that functional feeds and viral storylines are included.
Rockstar has devoted considerable resources to this added realism. Its development team has more than doubled since Red Dead Redemption 2, while one Los Angeles branch is dedicated almost entirely to NPCs. More than 50 real street artists created in-game murals, and actual race-car drivers helped develop vehicle handling.
Rockstar GamesThe confirmations arrive during the ongoing CyberLeek gameplay leaks, which have shown combat, driving, flying, stores, nightclubs, radio stations, sections of the map, and parts of the prologue.
The breach left Rockstar leaders and developers furious. In a social media post on August 26, the studio called the leaks “heartbreaking,” but remained eager to show off the Extended Look on Netflix.
GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
