Prince Harry wishes to repair burnt bridges with his estranged brother, Prince William, but it may not be for the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana's death, a royal author has claimed.
Speaking to ABC News Studios for the documentary Harry & Meghan: The Return of the Prince, Omar Scobie said the duke has "made it no secret that his wish for things moving forward, not just with his father, but with his brother as well, is to reconcile."
Plans for the anniversary had been floated, but Mr Scobie - long regarded as one of the Sussexes' most prominent media allies - remains pessimistic. "I can't see it making any difference, but one can always hope,” he said.
The Prince of Wales is said to have turned down multiple proposals to participate in or produce documentary tributes to his late mother.
His reasoning is understood to centre on a desire to steer clear of any additional friction with his younger brother, who is believed to have had "talks" regarding the possibility of a film.
Among those contacted is Diana's brother Earl Spencer, who noted in his recent memoir Swan Song: Diana, My Sister that he penned the book partly to avoid becoming a "talking head" in such productions.
The Sussexes' move back to Britain after six years in California has been anything but smooth. Within a fortnight of their arrival, a row erupted with Buckingham Palace over how the couple should be formally described.
A letter authorised by King Charles and distributed by the Lord Chamberlain to senior figures across government and the military made clear that Harry and Meghan were "private citizens," setting out protocols for their treatment accordingly.

The duke and duchess were reportedly taken aback by this formal communication. They are said to favour the description "public figures" instead.
Despite this, Mr Scobie suggested the King has undergone a genuine shift in attitude toward the Sussexes.
"I think we've seen with Charles things have moved forward and that iciness has thawed out. There's a warmth there," he said, before adding: "With William, I don't see it will ever change."

He did previously tell People magazine that Harry was "completely fine" about the publication - though he stopped short of revealing Williams true feelings on the book.
Since his return to the UK, the duke has undertaken a string of public appearances, attending events in London, Birmingham and New York.
Meghan has been absent from all of them, with the couple's last joint outing being a David Foster Foundation gala in Canada on August 7.
