The number of hate crimes recorded by police in England and Wales rose by seven per cent to 146,825 in the year ending March 2026, new Home Office figures show.
Race-related hate crimes rose by nine per cent, while religious hate offences increased by 13 per cent.
Within the latter category, offences targeting Muslims climbed by 15 per cent, while those directed at Jewish people rose by 10 per cent.
By contrast, the other three monitored categories recorded falls, with hate crimes motivated by sexual orientation down one per cent.
Disability-related offences decreased by five per cent, and transgender hate crimes fell by four per cent.
