Famous actor Tim Curry, best known for playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” died Tuesday at the age of 80.
Sources close to the star told TMZ that Curry struggled with serious health issues for more than a decade before he passed away late Tuesday at his Los Angeles home. Curry suffered a paralyzing stroke more than fourteen years ago that has led to a number of health complications since.
Details of his illness were not disclosed.
Law enforcement sources said police responded to Curry’s residence at 11:23 PM Tuesday.
Foul play is not suspected.
Tim began his Hollywood career in the late 1960s before landing his breakout role in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
Fans may also recognize Tim for his chilling portrayal of Pennywise the clown in the 1990 adaptation of Stephen King’s “It,” as well as his role as Mr. Hector in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”
Curry amassed a number of credits over the course of his career in entertainment, including “Annie,” “The Hunt for Red October,” “Muppet Treasure Island,” “Addams Family Reunion” and “Scary Movie 2.”
Tim remained an active performer throughout his career, both on screen and on stage as a theater actor, but health issues slowed him down in more recent years. He suffered a massive stroke in 2012 that required brain surgery.
Last year, around the time he released his memoir “Vagabond,” Tim revealed that he was still unable to walk.
Shockwaves rippled through the entertainment industry as fans and loved ones mourned the loss of the incredible actor and reflected on the remarkable legacy he left behind.
