Hong Kong’s leader will conduct his annual duty visit to Beijing to meet state leaders on Wednesday, a week after replacing his transport and tourism ministers and pledging to do more during the second half of his five-year tenure.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu will make a four-day duty visit to Beijing starting from Wednesday, according to a government statement, to brief Beijing leaders on the city’s latest economic, social and political situation.
The Director of the Chief Executive’s Office, Carol Yip, and Lee’s Private Secretary Vicki Kwok, will join the visit.
The city’s no 2 official Eric Chan kwok-ki and Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po will respectively be acting the chief executive position over the four-day period.
While the statement did not specify whom Lee would be meeting, traditionally, the chief executive will have a meeting with President Xi Jinping, going by past duty visits.
The trip this year is taking place earlier than last year’s, which happened from December 17 to 20.
