More than 4 million spectators attended 350 large-scale pop concerts in Hong Kong and spent HK$3.7 billion over the past two years, tourism officials revealed on Wednesday, with the government expecting more events following the opening of a new stadium.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui said big pop concerts held in 2023 and 2024 attracted over 4.2 million spectators, including more than 1.5 million visitors.
She told a Legislative Council meeting that their spending was estimated to be about HK$3.7 billion in total, adding value of about HK$2.2 billion to the economy.
Among these, some concerts involving non-local performers and support crews could drive direct spending of more than HK$100 million, she added.
The figures indicate that each spectator spent around HK$880 on average in the past two years.
