Hong Kong’s Lan Kwai Fong Group plans to establish an entertainment zone in the key Silk Road city of Xian, a bet on the mainland Chinese city’s tourism sector and its potential as a burgeoning technological hub, the company’s founder said.

The project will cover 148,000 square metres (1.6 million square feet) in the Xian High-Tech Industries Development Zone (HTIDZ) in the southwestern corner of the city.

“[The project] is huge and it’ll be the largest Lan Kwai Fong we have,” Allan Zeman, the “father of Lan Kwai Fong,” a popular nighttime district in Central, said in an interview with the Post.

“It’s not a normal Lan Kwai Fong that we pictured where there’s only F&B [food and beverage] restaurants, clubs and bars,” he said. “We want to take it one step further, evolving with time, we want to lead the evolution of entertainment.”

The LKF Xian project will include four commercial buildings featuring immersive entertainment, F&B, lifestyle and wellness and technology, it said.
