Assassin’s Creed Shadows release date is finally here and thousands of players are currently delving into Ubisoft’s latest open-world adventure.

On March 20, 2025, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was released on console and PC. Despite the controversy surrounding Yasuke and the historical inaccuracies, Assassin’s Creed has garnered glowing reviews from critics and fans alike, currently garnering a ‘Very Postivitve’ review rating on Steam.

Because of this, thousands of players have logged in and begun to explore the feudal Japan setting. Like all new games, you may be wondering how many people are currently playing AC Shadows.

Fortunately, our Assassin’s Creed Shadows player count has all the information, as well as how it compares to other popular games in the series.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows player count (March 2025)

As per SteamDB, Assassin’s Creed Shadows hit its all-time peak of 41,412 on March 20 at 3 PM UTC – just hours after launch. Naturally, this figure only takes into account PC players and doesn’t reflect the playerbase base across Xbox Series X/S and PS5.

On launch day, the Assassin’s Creed team announced on X that at 4 PM Canada time, the game had surpassed one million players.

It's not even 4PM here in Canada and Assassin's Creed Shadows has already passed 1 million players!

Currently, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is ranked in 39th place in Steam’s most-played games, directly under Cyberpunk 2077 and DayZ. Shadows is also ranked first under Steam’s global top sellers chart and even ranks eighth in Japan.

The ranking and player count will shift in the coming days as more players delve in. For comparison’s sake, below is a quick look at some of the most popular AC games on Steam and their all-time peak player counts:

  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: 62,069
  • Assassin’s Creed Origins: 41,551
  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: 15,679

So far, Shadows has yet to beat Odyssey and Origins, but do bear in mind that this figure only reflects the game’s first day of launch. Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ player count will fluctuate as time goes on, so be sure to check back here regularly for the latest updates.
