Overwatch 2 players can play Freja early before her debut in Season 16 and here’s how to do it.
Overwatch 2 revealed its upcoming hero, Freja, during the Spotlight event, showcasing her abilities and agile movement. Hailing from Denmark, the once renowned search and rescue operative in Overwatch is set to be a DPS hero arriving in Season 16.
It’s still a while until then, yet Blizzard has already dropped a hero trailer for her, giving fans more insight into her lore to add to the hype. Luckily, you don’t exactly have to wait until Season 16 comes to be able to play her.
Blizzard is letting players play Freja early, and if you can’t wait to try her out yourself, here’s how you can do so.
How to play Freja early in Overwatch 2 Season 15
To play Freja early, you’ll need to log in to Overwatch 2 between March 21 and March 24, 2025. During this time, she will be available to pick up in the hero selection screen within the DPS section.

That schedule does mean that she’ll only be available during the weekend before she gets released in Season 16, which according to the in-game Battle Pass timer, should fall on April 22, 2025.

Freja abilities and perks
Freja uses a crossbow which can be used to fire an explosive bolt, dealing a lot of damage after a short period of time, aside from firing automatic bolts.
Thanks to her abilities, she can dash upward in the air and vault in a different direction, making her quite mobile.
Like the rest of the roster, Freja will also have minor and major perks included with her that you’ll be able to choose once the match progresses. Check all the details of her kit below.
Abilities
Revdraw Crossbow (primary fire)
- Rapidly fire automatic bolts.
Take Aim (secondary fire)
- Slow down your momentum to take aim with a high speed explosive bolt. Using Quick Dash refreshes Take Aim.
Quick Dash
- Vault in the direction you’re moving and refresh Take Aim.
Updraft
- Launch upward with a gust of wind.
Bounty Hunting (Passive)
- Every 5 Killing Blows, gain bonus ultimate charge.
Bola Shot (Ultimate)
- Fire an explosive bola. Hitting an enemy wraps them up and pulls in other nearby enemies.
Perks
Minor
- Tracking Bolt: Enemies hit by three regular bolts in quick succession are revealed for four seconds.
- Bounty Collection: Eliminations grant 2% Ultimate charge. Killing blows grant 4%.
Major
- Ready to Hunt: Updraft grants a temporary free use of Quick Dash.
- Job’s Done: After getting killing blows on five unique enemy players, permanently reduce the cooldown of Take Aim by 20%.
