A large fire has erupted from the roof of a midtown Manhattan skyscraper, filling the skies over New York City with thick smoke. 

The blaze was spotted from the roof of The Set, a luxury apartment building in the Hudson Yards neighborhood. 

Fire crews raced to the scene, on 10th Avenue and West 35th Street, after the fire started shortly before midday on Thursday. 

There are no early reports of injuries or deaths, and it is unclear what may have triggered the huge fire.

Witnesses filmed the fire from offices in midtown Manhattan

According to the Citizen crime reporting app, firefighters have reported that the fire is under control with no injuries.
