A fire broke out at a three-story apartment building in Los Angeles on Thursday morning, leading residents to evacuate and prompting a large number of firefighters to respond.
The blaze started in the basement of the building on Kingsley Drive in East Hollywood just before 4:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Around 160 firefighters rushed to the building to battle the blaze, which quickly spread to apartments on all three floors. According to LAFD, flames were also spreading through the building’s walls.
Aerial footage from AIR7 showed thick smoke billowing from the building as flames poured out of windows in several apartments.
Fire officials said a woman who was inside the building was transported to a hospital. Her condition remains unknown.
The blaze is also expected to cause traffic disruptions in the surrounding area, with drivers advised to take alternate routes.
Authorities are still investigating what sparked the fire.
The California Post reached out to LAFD for an update, but did not immediately hear back.
