I’m A Detransitioner. This Is My Last Chance For Justice.

To many Americans, today feels like just another Tuesday morning. From coast to coast, we’ll wake up, grab a cup of coffee, and hit the pavement for another workday. But for me, Tuesday, September 29 means more than that — it’s the chance to see the scales of justice hopefully tip in my favor.

I wish I could say that it’s been a simple thing to ask.

Over the past few years, I have tried to explain to doctors what happened to me. Reporters, lawyers, and countless lawmakers — from Capitol Hill to state legislatures — have heard the painful and intimate details of my life because people need to understand what sex rejecting procedures did to me and others.

I have told my story so many times. I sometimes wonder how many more times I will have to tell it before the doctors and institutions responsible are willing to listen.

As a teenager, I was deeply troubled. I struggled with sexual trauma, mental illness, and an eating disorder. Together, they created a recipe for disaster. I became convinced that I was really a boy and that changing my body would make the mental and physical distress come to an end.

The adults I trusted to help me did not challenge that belief, or even question it. Medical professionals affirmed it and convinced me that their interventions would save my life. I was immediately fast-tracked to taking testosterone at 17, and ultimately a double mastectomy. I trusted the people treating me when they told me this was the only path forward.

But it wasn’t — it was medical fraud and abuse.

Now, I’m a detransitioner, still struggling with the medical catastrophes that doctors have left for me. On top of that, I became unexpectedly pregnant, which came with a slew of medical complexities that not even the best doctors could figure out.

Motherhood has forced me to confront the consequences of what happened to me in ways my teenage self could have never understood. The excruciating pain that came paired with the crippling reality of life after transition left me feeling my lowest and most vulnerable.

I live in this aftermath daily.

My fight for justice has lasted several years. I first filed my lawsuit in 2023 against the medical providers involved in my transition, alleging medical malpractice, negligence, and fraud. Some portions of my case were allowed to proceed, but my malpractice claims were dismissed under North Carolina’s statute of limitations. But now, North Carolina law has changed for the better, and detransitioners have the time they need to recognize the malpractice — since it’s not always immediate.

On Tuesday, September 29, my attorneys will appear before the North Carolina Court of Appeals and argue for the opportunity to move those claims forward. Even after years of litigation, a jury has never had the chance to hear the evidence that those who enabled my transition misled me through illegitimate advice.

While no court could ever reinstate my breasts or unravel the damage that the gender ideology movement has done to me, there should be a clear avenue for people like me to seek accountability, without having to jump through legal loopholes and constant appeals.

Detransitioners across this country will be watching to see how the court responds to my appeal. Some of them have bravely spoken out, but others are still isolated, terrified to admit that the treatment they once believed would save them left consequences they never anticipated.

Speaking from experience, it is exhausting — but I will never give up. Because somewhere out there is another young girl who believes what I believed, and maybe she’s beginning to question the narrative. Maybe she’s scared the side effects will erode her once-healthy body. She deserves to know that she matters.

To all detransitioners suffering in silence: know that you are not alone. You have a community standing beside you, demanding accountability, and fighting for the justice we deserve.

After years of legal roadblocks and a culture that too often would rather look away from the shocking reality of a detransitioner’s health complications, I just want the court to hear me. I deserve the chance to make my case. This may be my last chance for justice.
