The Islamic Republic does not have any proxies in the Middle East; groups such as Yemen's Houthis, Hamas, and Hezbollah fight for reasons of faith and are acting in their own interests, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Sunday, Iranian state media IRNA reported.
"The Islamic Republic does not have proxy forces,” Khamenei stated. “Yemen fights because of its faith; Hezbollah fights because its faith empowers it to take action; Hamas and [Palestinian Islamic] Jihad fight because their beliefs compel them to do so. They are not acting on our behalf.”
Khamenei's comments came during a meeting with a group of elegists and eulogists on the anniversary of the birth of Fatima bint Muhammad, the daughter of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad and wife of Ali ibn Abi Talib, the fourth Rashidun caliph, IRNA noted.
