Iranian dissident issues stark warning to Ed Miliband over threats to British Jews after talks with regime boss

Mr Miliband told his Iranian counterpart that Britain would "not tolerate intimidation, threats or hostile activity on UK soil".

But he has faced criticism here, including from Shadow Foreign Secretary Tom Tugendhat, after posing for a picture with Araghchi.

But a source among the Iranian dissident community told GB News that the only way to judge the meeting is if the threats against Britain’s Jewish community end for good as a result.

A GB News rebel source in southern Iran said: “Regarding the British Jewish community, the important question is not whether Mr Miliband shook Araghchi’s hand.

"The question is whether Iranian-linked threats actually disappear.

"Can Jewish people in Britain attend religious ceremonies without fear?

"Can Jewish children go to school and university openly as Jews?

"Can Jewish people freely tell their colleagues that they are Jewish without worrying about intimidation or threats?

"These are the real questions."

“So, I would not judge the meeting by the handshake. Judge it by what was said, what actions follow, and whether the threats actually stop."

Mr Miliband is said to have told the Iranian minister about "the UK's unwavering resolve to combat threats from Iranian-linked groups on UK soil, including attacks on the British Jewish community”.

But it’s not just Mr Miliband who came under fire, Araghchi himself is unpopular in Iran for meeting his western counterparts.

But dissidents reluctantly believe diplomacy with the evil government is needed as part of efforts to bring an end to the war that has torn Iran apart since February.

The source told GB News: "Meeting and shaking hands with a foreign minister does not mean endorsing his government or its actions.

"Diplomacy is precisely about speaking directly to people you strongly disagree with.

“There is another important point: Araghchi himself is under pressure inside Iran for engaging with American representatives.

"So meeting foreign officials is not necessarily a sign of friendship or approval; sometimes it is simply part of diplomacy.”

The cruel Islamic Republic has repeatedly used the detention of foreign and dual nationals as a source of pressure in its relations with western countries.

The British Government itself currently warns that British nationals face a very high risk of arrest and detention in Iran.

The source added: "Unfortunately, this is a game Tehran has been playing with Britain for years: when it wants leverage, British nationals can end up paying the price."

Shadow Foreign Secretary Mr Tugendhat said Mr Miliband’s meeting in the US was "legitimising a regime that has often tried to harm our people.

"Shaking hands gives them a credibility they have failed to achieve through violence.”
