President Javier Milei of Argentina has taken a decisive step toward reducing government waste by announcing the closure of the nation’s tax collection agency, Administración Federal de Ingresos Públicos (AFIP). This move is part of his broader plan to slash bureaucratic inefficiencies and lower government spending. In its place, the Agencia de Recaudación y Control Aduanero (ARCA) will take over, promising a more efficient and cost-effective system.

According to spokesperson Manuel Adorni, AFIP had long served as a political tool for oppression, subjecting many Argentines to unwarranted persecution. Milei's plan aims to dismantle the burdensome bureaucracy that has stifled economic freedom and innovation. This restructuring is expected to save Argentina $6.4 million annually, driven by a reduction of over 3,000 staff and a significant cut in top-level positions.

There's a lot of that going around.

“In its place, the Agencia de Recaudación y Control Aduanero (ARCA) will take over”

In other words they haven’t got rid of it. They have just renamed it.

Unfortunately we’re not ridding ourselves of the yoke that is the IRS unless we repeal the 16th amendment. Even then, there’s no executive function that would allow Trump or any president to get rid of an income tax.

Now, since the IRS is not mentioned in the 16th amendment, technically Congress could just rid of us of the Revenue Act of 1913 without repealing the 16th amendment, but I think with enough states getting on board, it’s an auspicious goal.

Bottom line: repeal of the 16th would be the end goal. However, the IRS could be shuttered, effectively leaving no way to collect income taxes, or Congress could throw out the Revenue Act of 1913 (not holding my breath).

At last Latin America has a “strong man” who wants to dial down government.
Nevertheless — the American taxpayer should not adhere to business as usual, while waiting for one strong man to save us all. Instead, the American taxpayer should BE the strong man who steps up to correct the government. Step up and cut off its allowance.
A strong man endures hardship to avoid rocking the boat; he should as well be able to endure it for liberty.
This isn’t going to be a government of/by/for the people if we continue to reward it for bad behavior.
