Jessica Simpson cryptically claimed she was dealing with personal drama two months before she confirmed her separation from Eric Johnson.
In November 2024, the singer and designer posted several snapshots from a recording studio photoshoot as she teased new music, and her caption was quite telling.
“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” she penned. “This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve 🎶 🎼 🤍🖤.”
At the time, fans speculated that Simpson’s caption referred to problems within her marriage.
After further fueling rumors of trouble in paradise by leaving her house sans wedding ring in late December, she confirmed their split on Tuesday.
“Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” she told People.
“Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
The “Irresistible” singer, 44, and Johnson, 45, wed in 2014 and share three kids: Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5.
In addition to her cryptic Instagram caption and ditching her wedding ring last year, Simpson had fans feeling certain something was going on in her marriage after she stopped posting pictures of Johnson in 2024.
Furthermore, a source claimed in November 2024 the pair were “living separately right now,” while another said they were “trying to figure out a separation without disrupting their kids’ lives as much as possible.”
Plus, Page Six learned that the retired football player began attending school events without Simpson last year, which was never the norm.
Johnson has not yet publicly commented on the status of their marriage.
The “Open Book” author confirmed their split just days after she and Johnson re-listed their seven-bedroom, 13-bathroom home in Hidden Hills, Calif., for nearly $18 million.
She moved to Nashville in 2023 and People later reported that Johnson stayed with the kids in Los Angeles for the school year.
The same year as her big move, she gushed about her connection with Johnson.
“He knows my heart and understands my heart more than anyone I’ve ever met in my life,” she told People.
“I knew the instant we met that I could see my future in his eyes and with a lot of people, I hope for a future in their eyes, but with Eric, I saw it.”
