Features

Diplomat affiliate MHT Corporation is seeking a Japan-based multilingual professional to coordinate translation projects.

MHT Corporation, a Tokyo-based language services company founded in 1990, is looking for a Multilingual Translation Project Coordinator to join its team on a part-time or contract basis.

The successful candidate will oversee translation projects involving languages outside MHT’s core Japanese-English and English-Japanese business. Working with translators and other language professionals, the coordinator will manage projects from initial assignment through delivery, helping to ensure that work is completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.

This position would suit someone who enjoys working with languages, is highly organized, and is comfortable managing several projects and priorities at the same time.

Requirements

Applicants should:

  • Be fluent in Japanese and able to perform all work duties in Japanese;
  • Be proficient in at least one additional language, preferably Mandarin Chinese or a major European language;
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Be comfortable learning new applications and working with digital tools;
  • Have an interest in developing and maintaining terminology and translation databases;
  • Be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Respond flexibly to changing requirements and circumstances; and
  • Work carefully and reliably under strict deadlines.

Previous experience in translation, localization, project coordination, or another multilingual working environment would be valuable, but we also welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate the necessary language ability, organizational skills, and willingness to learn.

Working Arrangements

This is a part-time or contract position based in Japan. Hours are flexible; however, a significant weekly commitment would be required.

Remote work is possible. However, after an initial period of learning MHT’s systems and workflows, the successful candidate will normally be expected to work from MHT’s Tokyo office approximately two days per week. Applicants should therefore be able to travel regularly to central Tokyo.

MHT uses its own browser-based translation management system. Full training will be provided, but candidates should be comfortable learning unfamiliar software and adapting to new working methods.

Pay for a part-time arrangement would be 1800 yen an hour, with social insurance, employment insurance and paid leave.
