In some unexpected news announced on X on Sunday, October 4, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel got engaged to Alexis Wilkins, his country music singer girlfriend. The couple revealed their engagement via a post that Wilkins made on X.

In her post, Wilkins said, “Went and got the law involved,” adding ring and heart emojis, along with a picture of the two of them that showed off the engagement ring. She tagged Patel in the post, which quickly racked up millions of views, thousands of comments, and tens upon tens of thousands of likes. Director Patel responded to her post with a quote tweet that also included a ring and heart emoji.

The couple has faced scrutiny since Patel became FBI director. For one, Patel is 46 years old, and Wilkins is 27 years old. They began dating in 2023, making her noticeably younger when they first started dating. Further, she is an entertainer who has appeared in a small smattering of TV shows and movies, and who is attempting a country music career.

Much more importantly, the two have faced criticism for allegedly using government resources for private events, such as when Patel allegedly used government-owned planes to go on private travel with Wilkins. Patel has denied the accusations of corruption or misuse of government resources.

Patel fired back against much of that criticism, and other claims surrounding Wilkins and her relationship with him, in a post on X in 2025 in which he said, in part, “I’ve always said — criticize me all you want. But going after the people doing great work, my personal life, or those around me is a total disgrace.”

Continuing, he added, “The disgustingly baseless attacks against Alexis — a true patriot and the woman I’m proud to call my partner in life — are beyond pathetic. She is a rock-solid conservative and a country music sensation who has done more for this nation than most will in ten lifetimes. I’m so blessed she’s in my life.” Concluding, he wrote, “Attacking her isn’t just wrong — it’s cowardly and jeopardizes our safety. My love of family will always be my cornerstone, and you will never tear that down or keep me from them.”

That’s not all. The two also faced criticism from MS NOW over what reporters Carol Leonnig and Ken Dilanian claimed was an incident in which Patel sent an FBI security detail to escort one of Wilkins’s friends home after a night of heavy drinking. Wilkins sued in response to those claims, arguing that the claim made by Leonnig and Dilanian that Patel ordered the detail to “escort one of her allegedly inebriated friends home after a night of partying” in Nashville, TN, was defamatory.

“Defendants falsely asserted that Ms. Wilkins demanded, and Director Patel ordered, that federal agents assigned to her security detail — which did not even exist at the time — escort an intoxicated friend home after a ‘night of partying,’” lawyers for Wilkins alleged. “They falsely portrayed Ms. Wilkins as being intoxicated even knowing that she does not drink,” the complaint then claimed, requesting $75,000 in damages. A jury trial is scheduled for May of 2028.
