Fox News has named Larry Kudlow the temporary host of “Sunday Morning Futures” following Maria Bartiromo’s abrupt departure. The Fox Business host’s assignment runs from September 27th through November 8th, the Sunday after the midterm elections. The network says it will name a permanent host later. Kudlow’s selection gives the program a familiar Fox face for the final weeks of the campaign.
“Sunday Morning Futures” airs Sundays from 10 to 11 a.m. Eastern on Fox News Channel. Bartiromo had hosted the program alongside two shows on sister network Fox Business, giving her a presence across both channels. Kudlow already hosts the weekday market-close program bearing his name on Fox Business. His Sunday assignment puts him in Bartiromo’s former seat during the stretch leading up to the November 3rd election.
Fox News Media announced on September 3rd that Bartiromo was leaving, effective that day, after more than 12 years with the company. She had joined Fox in 2014 following two decades at CNBC and had become a regular presence on both Fox News Channel and Fox Business. The network gave no specific reason for her departure in its public announcement. It named former Republican congressman and Fox host Jason Chaffetz for the next “Sunday Morning Futures” broadcast, with a longer-term host to be chosen later.
A week after the announcement, Bartiromo addressed supporters. As we previously reported, she thanked them in a September 10th Instagram post for their messages following her exit. “I love you all and I promise to be back soon [with] my next moves,” she wrote. Bartiromo didn’t name a new show or network, and she gave no hints at revealing where she would appear next.
Fox’s September 3rd announcement also laid out what would happen to Bartiromo’s other programs. Her weekday show became “Mornings with FOX Business,” with rotating anchors. The Friday program “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street” became “FBN’s Wall Street,” with Cheryl Casone hosting its first edition under the new name and rotating anchors to follow.
Kudlow’s selection gives the Sunday show a host with experience in both television and government. Fox’s September 25th announcement says he joined Fox Business in 2021 and hosts “Kudlow” at 4 p.m. Eastern. The network says his interviews there have included President Donald Trump, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Elon Musk, and House Speaker Mike Johnson. Fox didn’t specify whether his weekday program would change during the new Sunday assignment.
Before joining Fox Business, Kudlow served as director of the National Economic Council and assistant to the president for economic policy during Trump’s first term, from 2018 to 2021. He’d previously spent years at CNBC, where his programs included “The Kudlow Report,” and appeared regularly on “Squawk Box.” Earlier in his career, he worked in the Reagan administration’s Office of Management and Budget from 1981 to 1985. He also served as chief economist and senior managing director at Bear Stearns.

That background places a former Trump economic adviser in the host’s chair as midterm campaigns enter their final weeks. Fox has specified an end date for Kudlow’s temporary run, but it hasn’t named the person who will take over permanently or given any indication as to when that decision will be announced. Kudlow’s first edition included an interview with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
