Manchester City striker Khadija Shaw set a new WSL record when she scored a hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur on Friday night.

The 4-0 triumph at the Etihad Stadium kept Gareth Taylor's side top of the league standings after seven games. Shaw scored three, while midfielder Jill Roord added a fourth for the hosts.

This season, the Jamaica international has now scored seven goals in the league and leads the chase for the Golden Boot once again, having won it in 2023/24. Over the weekend, she not only scored a sixth WSL hat-trick to surpass City teammate Vivianne Miedema as the player with the most, but she also became the the first ever player to score three hat-tricks against the same opponent.

Here, 90min have looked back at Shaw’s six WSL career hat-tricks...

Shaw registered her first WSL hat-trick towards the end of her first season with City. Taylor's side stormed to a 7-2 triumph over Brighton back in April 2022, and Shaw was on the scoresheet four times.

The striker scored twice inside the opening 15 minutes before Caroline Weir added a City third shortly after. Shaw converted a further two chances in the second half, while Lauren Hemp and Alex Greenwood were also among the goals.

Man City 3-1 Tottenham (March 2023)

The City star had to wait almost 12 months before she scored another hat-trick, and the second of her WSL career came against Tottenham in March 2023. At the end of the first half, Shaw netted the first before she converted a penalty shortly after the break.

She added the third late in the game, while Celin Bizet scored the solitary goal for Spurs that day. Despite Shaw’s goalscoring exploits, it was actually Aston Villa's Rachel Daly who claimed the golden boot in the 2022/23 season.

Early in 2023/24, City thrashed Spurs 7-0 at home as Shaw bagged her second hat-trick against the north London club. She scored all three goals in the space of 15 minutes in the first half.

After the break, Hemp, Roord and Laura Coombs scored the further four to complete the rout.

Everton 1-4 Man City (December 2023)

A month later, the striker scored the fourth hat-trick of her WSL career when City faced Brian Sorensen's Everton side. She buried the first two chances in the first half, and added the third just after the hour mark.

Roord, who was also enjoying a strong start to the 2023/24 campaign, was on the scoresheet in the first half at Walton Hall Park.

When WSL action returned in January 2024 following the winter break, Shaw wasted no time in continuing her goalscoring form. Against another Merseyside club, this time Liverpool, she scored three in a 5-1 victory.

Taylor Hinds had initially opened the scoring for the visitors, but an own goal from defender Gemma Bonner just minutes later gifted City a route back into the game. A clinical Shaw then scored two before half time, and she added the third shortly after the break. Chloe Kelly converted a late penalty.

Man City 4-0 Tottenham (November 2024)

Fast forward to her most recent appearance, Shaw scored her third WSL career hat-trick against Spurs alone as Taylor's side secured a 4-0 win over the Lilywhites. It took the striker a single minute to break the deadlock at the Etihad on Friday night.

Shaw scored a second 15 minutes later, then added the third in the second half. Roord, who is fit and firing after recovering from an ACL injury, was also on the scoresheet after the break.
