Despite heading into her second year as American Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle has clearly not yet got the memo that the 6.5-inch platform heels that are a mainstay in her ambassadorial closet are no match for a Mykonos beach day.
Stepping out in the party playground over the weekend, Guilfoyle, 57, nearly came to grief as she navigated the floating decks and sandy beaches of Greece's most famous summer retreat.
The impossibly impractical footwear was matched by a dramatic long sleeved net maxi dress whose only nod to the soaring summer temperatures was a plunging neckline that at least allowed her decolletage a chance to catch a bit of the beach breeze.
Nearly falling into the ocean when she teetered precariously across the gap from the harbor to her waiting vessel, Guilfoyle looked, for an instant, as if she was going to indulge in an unplanned Mediterranean dip.
But thanks to the security that, by virtue of her post, she is never without, the Ambassador's dignity was saved and she proceeded as planned.
One can't help but think that the veteran island hopper should have known better.
This was her second high profile stop to Mykonos in under a month. Just two weeks earlier she had locked arms with fellow ambassador (to Belgium) and former Fox News alumni, Bill White and his husband Bryan Eure.
Donning a white and purple loose-fitting maxi dress with a cropped white jacket, Guilfoyle seemed in party mode as she and her guests soaked in the sun at Nammos Beach club.

Sipping her sparkling wine, her dark hair falling loosely around her shoulders framing a face plastered with full MAGA make-up, Guilfoyle was clearly making the most of what Greece has to offer in her out of office hours.
But even on duty, she has shown little aptitude for the kind of conventional diplomatic fashion that typically constitutes an Ambassador's wardrobe.
Just two days before her jaunt to Mykonos, Guilfoyle had found time to visit the Ormylia Monastery in Halkidiki.

A world away from Caroline Kennedy's understated chic as Ambassador to Japan (2013-2017) and her attempt at cultural outreach by donning a kimono in New York City when she opened the 'Season of Japan' at the Asia Society, Guilfoyle seems happy to remain, at least style wise, faithful to her former days at Mar-a-lago.
An exile from the Trump inner circle, as her far-flung posting clearly proclaims, Guilfoyle seems unwilling or unable to pivot to a shifting political moment that has begun to extend to the world of dress.

Like the presidential succession battle that looms increasingly on the horizon, these women - the stylistic standard bearers of the party - will likely be waiting and watching carefully to see what version of MAGA woman ultimately prevails.
