A 29-year-old man died Saturday after suffering a punctured lung when a knife-wielding stranger repeatedly stabbed him on the Queens block where he grew up, his father said.
Sulimon Ferrier was walking with his father, Peter Ferrier, on Jamaica Avenue near 175th Street in Jamaica around 1 a.m. when a stranger confronted them, the father said.
“He wanted to fight somebody … and we tell him, ‘Don’t make no trouble on this block, man,’” the father said, explaining that the family had lived in an apartment on the block since 2002. “He said, ‘F you, I make trouble anyway.’”
The father and son tried to cross the street to get away from the man, but the stranger pulled a knife from his waistband and and chased them, Ferrier said.
“When we crossed the road, this guy ran and stabbed him,” Ferrier said, explaining that his son was stabbed in the chest. “When they fell to the ground, my son was on top of him.”
That’s when the stranger also stabbed his son in the back, the father said.
The victim then ran into Seduction bar and restaurant, where he collapsed.
“His mother came downstairs,” the father, who is from Guyana, said. “He told his mother he can’t breathe.”
The mother tried to stop the bleeding from the chest wound and did not immediately realize that her son had also been stabbed in the back, the father said.
“When he turned over, then we see his back,” the father said. “I can’t believe that. Joe is a very jolly kid. He would come hug up his mom. I don’t know how my wife will take this.”
His son was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The father said the family did not know the attacker and believes the wound to his son’s back was the fatal blow.
“He didn’t survive the stabbing because it punctured his lungs,” the father said. “We all have to face death and I believe in that.”
“They’re going to find him,” he said of the attacker.
There were no immediate arrests, but police were investigating, an NYPD spokeswoman said, adding that police believe a dispute led to the stabbing.
The suspect was described as a man with a slim build who was wearing a black skull cap, gold chain, blue T-shirt, navy blue sweatpants with white stripes and white sneakers, police said. No further description was provided.
