CV NEWS FEED // The Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark is producing a video series honoring baseball icon Lawrence “Yogi” Berra, spotlighting his faith, family, military service, and legendary career in Major League Baseball (MLB).

In a March 7 press release, the Catholic Cemeteries stated the video series, Legends Remembered, pays tribute to Berra’s faith-driven life.

The series, which coincides with the Lenten season and the nearing MLB Spring Training, will feature seven episodes in total, with new episodes released weekly. Episode 1 was released Feb. 24, and features a conversation between Berra’s eldest son, Larry Berra and Father Gabriel Costa, a Catholic priest and professor at U.S. Military Academy at West Point, according to the Catholic Cemeteries. Episode 2 highlights Berra’s dedication to his family and discusses his children’s experience of growing up with a father in the MLB. Episode 3 shares more about his faith.

As CatholicVote previously reported, Berra was an 18-time All Star and 13-time World Series Champion in the MLB. Berra also served in the Navy during the Second World War and was awarded multiple medals, including the Purple Heart, for his service, the Catholic Cemeteries stated.

He was married to Carmen Berra for 65 years, according to Catholic Cemeteries.

“A devout Catholic, he and his wife, Carmen, made faith and family central to their lives,” the website states. “Yogi attended Mass most Sundays and regularly worshipped at Montclair’s Immaculate Conception Church when he was in town.”

Legends Remembered was created in celebration of Jubilee Year 2025 and the Archdiocese of Newark’s 2025 We Are His Witnesses initiative, according to the website.
