Like mother, like daughter.

Lily Brant, 21, stepped into her supermodel mom Stephanie Seymour’s stilettos at Alaïa’s Paris Fashion Week show on Saturday, making her runway debut for the house that gave Seymour her start in the 1980s.

The Ford Models signee grew up around the late designer and spent family dinners at his house as a kid. “He was always just the sweetest presence and had such a kind soul,” she told Vogue. “He would always give me hugs, and he treated me like family.”

Seymour, 58, was a longtime muse to Alaïa, whom she called “Papa” and who died in 2017 at age 82. In a 2009 conversation with the designer for Interview magazine, she recalled that out of 20 go-sees in Paris as a teen, he was the only one to book her.

While her first time on his runway wasn’t exactly auspicious — Seymour said later she spent the entire walk muttering, “I can’t believe I’m doing this” — Alaïa found the footage hilarious and made her a house regular.

He even lobbied pals like Kenzo to hire her, brushing off their doubts.

“But who cares? She has the best butt!” Seymour told Interview.

Her daughter came better prepared. Back at college in St. Louis, where she studies film and business, Brant practiced on a treadmill in heels at Seymour’s suggestion, often in pairs borrowed from her mom’s closet.

Seymour also passed along an imaginative catwalk trick. “She said sometimes when she would walk, she would channel whatever would help her feel confident,” Brant told Vogue. “She would sometimes pretend she was a gazelle prancing around, or a mermaid. She was like, ‘You can be whatever you want to be.’”

As a teen, Brant spent two summers interning at Alaïa, splitting her time between PR and the atelier.

The designer also made Seymour’s gown for her 1995 wedding to Peter Brant and gave her away at the ceremony.

Seymour and Brant also share son Peter Brant Jr., 32, and lost their son Harry Brant to an accidental overdose in 2021 at age 24. Seymour has an older son, Dylan Andrews, 36, from her first marriage to Tommy Andrews.

Brant had plenty of famous company in Paris this season. Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter Apple Martin made her runway debut at Chloé, John Travolta’s daughter Ella Bleu Travolta walked Miu Miu and Heidi Klum brought daughter Lou Samuel to Vivienne Westwood’s front row.
