The band began in Paysandú, a river city in western Uruguay, in 1958 under the name Los Blue Kings. It became Los Iracundos in 1964, after signing with the RCA Victor label.
Singer and composer Eduardo Franco gave the group its sound in the late 1960s. Songs such as Es la lluvia que cae and Puerto Montt made them a fixture of romantic Spanish-language pop.
