Firefighters made a horrific discovery early Saturday morning while responding to a house fire in Los Angeles County — finding the bodies of a married couple and their child dead from apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

The LA County Fire Department arrived at the scene on the 5000 block of E 61st Street in Maywood around 2:20 a.m. and requested backup due to the flames and smoke.

Three people were found dead after a structure fire erupted in Maywood on Saturday. Authorities reported that the victims likely died from gunshot wounds before the flames were knocked down by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. KTLA

After getting the blaze under control, emergency responders found the three victims inside a bedroom at the home, with the trio dead from apparent gunshot wounds, according to the LA County Sheriff’s Office.

A gun was recovered at the scene.

The victims were described as a married couple, a man and a woman in their late 40s, and their son, who was under the age of 10.

“The incident appears to be domestic violence in nature. The two adults are married, and the child is their biological child,” the sheriff’s office said.

The case remains under investigation.

The victims were described a man in his late 40s, a woman in her late 40s and a boy under the age of 10. KTLA

Video posted to the Citizen app showed firefighters on the roof of the residence as smoke billowed from the home.

It’s unclear how the fire started.
