On the three-year anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks, events were held at over 400 different sites throughout Israel.
The commemorations began with a national moment of silence at 6:29 p.m., the same time that jihadist terrorist group Hamas killed over 1,200 people and kidnapped 251 more, Ynet News reported. The day will consist of protests for accountability, convoys, survivor testimony, and a memorial ceremony.
Most events were facilitated by the October Council and the Kumu Movement, civil society organizations centered around bereaved families of Oct. 7 survivors. Many events were held at the site of the Nova Music Festival in the Re’im Forest where over 340 were killed and 44 abducted. Protests for government inquiry into the massacre were scattered throughout Caesarea and Jerusalem, according to Ynet News.
The Kumu Movement did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
The three-year anniversary of the attacks occurs amidst the backdrop to a country in contention. With the Israeli elections less than a month away, the country is in an economic downturn, with Israeli citizens bearing the financial burden of its leadership’s bellicose policies. At a cabinet meeting yesterday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu foreshadowed the continued conflict, CNN reported. Netanyahu asserts that “4,000 of the 6,000” militants behind the attack were killed, but “we will reach all of them.”
Both the Kumu Movement and the October council have continually demanded a state commission inquiry into Oct 7., according to CNN. Netanyahu is yet to begin any sort of inquiry.
— עינב צנגאוקר (@enavezangauker) October 4, 2026“We Are All [Oct. 7],” Einav Zangauker, mother of freed hostage, Matan Zangauker, wrote in a Sunday X post in Hebrew. “In his final moments in the safe room, Matan says goodbye to me. He’s in the midst of hell, knowing the terrorists are closing in. And I, his mother, am far away, unable to reach him, to hold him or save my child. In just minutes, he will be abducted to Gaza. And the state wasn’t there. Not that morning, nor during the 738 days he was abandoned in captivity.”
“But [Oct. 7] is not just the story of us, the families. It is the story of all of us. I call on each and every one of you — even if you weren’t directly harmed in the massacre — to go back to your messages from that cursed morning. To the moments of fear, shock, and uncertainty. Share them, too,” the post added. “So that no one can blur this day.”
