Weekend Classic finally scratches that competitive itch in MLB The Show 25, allowing players to put their squad up against the best of the best.
Most sports simulation titles have a competitive game mode. For example, FUT Champs in EA FC 25 challenges players to qualify and then complete 15 matches every weekend to earn rewards in Ultimate Tea.
NHL, Madden, and NBA 2K also have similar game modes. But MLB The Show has never featured a weekend tournament mode. That all changes with this series entry.
Let’s jump into everything players need to know before jumping into the mode for the first time.
What is Weekend Classic?

Weekend Classic features six initial matches, during which players earn more rewards for each win. Players can continue playing after the first six games to earn additional rewards and climb a 100-player leaderboard.
Each separate league has its own top 100 leaderboard for every Weekend Classic.
The top 10 players at the end of a Weekend Classic earn more rewards. Weekend Classic games have the same rules as Ranked. They are nine-inning games, and the difficulty is based on the rating of both players.
Quick Counts, Guess Pitch, and Balks are all disabled in the game mode, and there are no squad restrictions. Weekend Classic only supports 1v1 play, meaning you can’t do co-op with a friend.
When is the first Weekend Classic?
The first Weekend Classic is on Friday, April 11, and ends on Tuesday, April 15. San Diego Studio revealed that most events will occur from Friday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon, but some might be shorter or longer.
The devs also did not reveal how frequently the tournaments will occur but assured fans they can routinely expect it at the end of every Ranked cycle.
How to qualify for Weekend Classic
All players are automatically qualified for Weekend Classic, but players can qualify for higher leagues with better rewards if their Solo Ranked rating is higher.
Here is a look at all eight leagues.
- Bronze I (0-399 Ranked Rating)
- Bronze II (400-499 Ranked Rating)
- Silver I (500-599 Ranked Rating)
- Silver II (600-699 Ranked Rating)
- Gold I (700-799 Ranked Rating)
- Gold II (800-899 Ranked Rating)
- Diamond (900-999 Ranked Rating)
- Immortal (1000-9999 Ranked Rating)
Winning Ranked matches improves your Ranked Rating and helps you progress into better leagues. Which league you qualify for is based on the maximum rating you achieved that season.
Weekend Classic rewards

The higher the league players qualify in, the better the rewards. There will be two-player item rewards every Weekend Classic, and they are available to unlock in the Gold 1 league and higher.
Rewards for a player’s first six games of a Weekend Classic will be given instantaneously after getting each win. Other rewards will be distributed at the end of the Weekend Classic window.
