Molly-Mae Hague has finally put an end to fan speculation about her newborn son's name.

The 27-year-old influencer revealed in a new YouTube vlog that baby Midas wasn't actually named after the famous Greek King who turned everything to gold.

Instead, the Maebe founder explained she discovered the name while watching Real Steel, the 2011 Hugh Jackman film about robot boxing.

It turns out one of the mechanical fighters in the movie is called Midas, and Ms Hague fell in love with it years ago.

The revelation comes after fans had assumed the couple chose the name for its mythological connections when it was announced earlier this month.

Speaking about her unusual choice, the influencer said: "I actually found the name from watching a film called Real Steel, which is like the most random film. It's basically like Transformers."

She admitted the sci-fi action movie, which stars Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly, isn't her typical viewing choice.

"It's the most not me film ever," she explained.

"And I showed my mum it the other week. She was like, 'This is so like random for you to like this film.' And I was like, 'I know, but it's actually such a great film.'"

The 2011 film is set in a future where heavyweight robots have replaced human boxers in the ring.

When Ms Hague mentioned the name to Tommy, he instantly loved it, and the couple held onto it as their boy name for years.

The couple revealed their son's name to the world in a rather creative way – Tommy displayed it on his boxing shorts during his clash with Eddie Hall at Manchester's AO Arena on June 13.

The reality star had even added a special touch to his kit, explaining: "When Tommy wears his kit tomorrow, inside the kit, when we were designing it, we put a little patch inside that says everything he touches turns into gold because I do just think it's so special."

She was quick to address critics who pointed out that King Midas was actually portrayed as foolish in Greek mythology.

"But equally, he's not necessarily named after the Greek King because I saw a few comments being like, 'um, King Midas was a fool in Greek mythology,'" she said.

Molly-Mae drew a comparison to her daughter's name, noting: "But the same way Bambi is not necessarily named after the Disney character Bambi, is the same way Midas is not named after the Greek King."

The baby's full name is Midas Thomas Fury, with his middle name honouring his boxer dad.

The couple, who met on Love Island, welcomed their second child earlier this month, and Molly-Mae has been open about how different this experience has been.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote: "Thank you for healing so many of my newborn fears little one.

"The peace and happiness I feel this time around is something I wished for but didn't know would come."

She added that the difference compared to her experience with Bambi is "indescribable".
