Elon Musk said Sunday that SpaceX’s artificial intelligence business, SpaceXAI, will be renamed SpaceXSI.

Musk is replacing “AI” with “SI,” short for “super intelligence,” which falls in line with President Donald Trump’s Sept. 29 executive order that mandated the new phrase replace “artificial intelligence” in official communications.

“SpaceX is a super intelligence company,” Musk posted on X.

“No more AI,” Musk wrote on X. “SI. It’s better.”

When another user asked about renaming the business SpaceXSI, Musk replied, “Yes, we will make that change.”

He did not add any other details.

SpaceXAI develops Grok, a chatbot that is included with X. The company also provides AI tools for businesses, including customer service, legal research, and security analysis.

The business was previously known as xAI. SpaceX acquired it in February, bringing the AI developer under the same corporate umbrella as Musk’s rocket and satellite operations. SpaceX builds and launches reusable rockets and operates Starlink, which provides internet service through a network of satellites.

Not everyone has joined Trump’s super intelligence bandwagon.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered state agencies to stay with the term “artificial intelligence” one day after Trump directed the federal executive branch to replace it with “super intelligence.”

Newsom signed an executive order saying all agencies and departments under his authority “shall refer to Artificial Intelligence and AI as ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘AI,’ notwithstanding any rebranded or different terminology used by the federal government, unless inconsistent with the law.”

“I just signed an executive order permanently declaring Artificial Intelligence ‘Artificial Intelligence;’ in California. You’re welcome, America,” Newsom wrote Sept. 30 on X.

Musk had already started using the term “super intelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence” on his X feed.

On Oct. 2, he wrote on X, “Super Intelligence (fka AI) is now acing accounting tests.”

Musk hasn’t balked at rebranding his companies.

In 2023, he changed the name of Twitter after he bought it to X.

Trump has also made a series of name changes during his second term, covering geographic landmarks, military installations, and a federal department, as well as AI.

On Jan. 20, 2025, Trump ordered the federal government to use “Gulf of America” instead of “Gulf of Mexico” and restore the name Mount McKinley to Alaska’s Denali, North America’s highest mountain. Denali National Park and Preserve retained its name.

In March 2025, he ordered the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge in Texas renamed for Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old girl killed in Houston.

His administration also restored military base names, including Fort Bragg and Fort Benning, replacing Fort Liberty and Fort Moore.

On Sept. 5, 2025, Trump authorized “Department of War” as a secondary title for the Department of Defense. The department’s statutory name remained unchanged under that order.

On Aug. 27, 2026, he ordered federal references to Lake Ontario changed to “Lake America.”

His Sept. 29 executive order directed executive branch agencies to replace “artificial intelligence” and “AI” with “super intelligence” and “SI” in official communications and non-statutory documents, to the extent permitted by law. Previously issued documents didn’t need to be changed.

“The terminology used by the Federal Government should reflect the transformative capabilities of these technologies and the limitless opportunities they create for the American people,” the executive order stated.

Trump said the word “artificial” makes the technology sound fake.

“It’s not fake. It’s actually amazing. We have to be careful,” he said in an address to the U.N. General Assembly.

Trump also announced Oct. 4 the creation of the Super Intelligence Force to coordinate federal efforts to maintain U.S. leadership in AI.

The group will engage with the public, various organizations, critical infrastructure providers, and technology companies, Trump said in a Truth Social post.
