Notorious Liberal Pundit Suffers Meltdown For The Ages After Trump Defeats Kamala

One of the most pretentious writers in liberal media suffered a meltdown for the ages Wednesday morning after former President and now-President-elect Donald Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris.

Even before the election results Tuesday, The Atlantic was on a roll, with one of its staff writers discussing how to mitigate anxiety triggered by such a tight, high-stakes race. The journalist was essentially prepping his coddled readers for a wicked case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) should Kamala lose. Well, in a glorious and ironic twist, another Atlantic writer, Tom Nichols, appears to have come down with this very same mental affliction, learning nothing from his colleague about taking walks, refraining from apocalyptic thinking and eating edibles to chill out and accept what cannot be changed, i.e., the will of the American people. Here is Nichols breaking down in the digital pages of The Atlantic (and it’s worth reading a good chunk of it to see how warped his brain has become since making his journalistic brand all about scolding normal Americans who don’t share his deep, profound opinions about American Democracy™ and what is best for the country):

The urge to cast blame will be overwhelming, because there is so much of it to go around. When the history of this dark moment is written, those responsible will include not only Trump voters but also easily gulled Americans who didn’t vote or who voted for independent or third-party candidates because of their own selfish peeves.

The kinds of actions that will stop Trump from destroying America in 2025 are the same ones that stopped many of his plans the first time around. They are not flashy, and they will require sustained attention, because the next battles for democracy will be fought by lawyers and legislators, in Washington and in every state capitol. They will be fought by citizens banding together in associations and movements to rouse others from the sleepwalk that has led America into this moment.

Trump’s victory is a grim day for the United States and for democracies around the world. You have every right to be appalled, saddened, shocked, and frightened. Soon, however, you should dust yourself off, square your shoulders, and take a deep breath. Americans who care about democracy have work to do.

He is, ah, not well, to say the least. And he seems to be implying that, although tens of millions of American citizens peacefully cast their ballot to elect Trump and kick out the bums who’ve been running the show since 2021 — the most democratic and civic-minded thing the country can do — all these fellow countrymen don’t care about democracy. This isn’t true, of course, otherwise, they would have not voted at all or violently seized power.

See, for someone like Tom Nichols, democracy is when his preferred candidate wins. Democracy, for Tom Nichols, is when every single person living in America agrees with him. If it’s not that, if it’s not Tom Nichols’ worldview and policies, it’s not democracy. It’s fascism.
