Nottingham Forest and Liverpool played out a thoroughly entertaining 1-1 draw at the City Ground, as the two clubs ended the day as the top two teams in the Premier League table.
Chris Wood gave Nottingham Forest the lead after just eight minutes, running on to Anthony Elanga’s pass to slot the ball into the net past Alisson. It was Wood’s 13th Premier League goal of 2024-25 already, moving him just one behind his all-time seasonal high in the competition set both last season and in 2019-20 (14).
Nottingham Forest were arguably the better side in the first half, but Liverpool came out a different team in the second period and threatened to equalise before it finally arrived via the reliable Diogo Jota.
The Portuguese headed in from close range to make it four goals in four Premier League games against Forest. It was his first touch of the ball, having come onto the pitch just 22 seconds before his strike.
Liverpool probed for a winner, but came up against an inspired Matz Sels in the Forest goal. He made a string of fine saves, as the Reds attempted 14 shots in the second half with seven on target. The Reds couldn’t find another goal, but this draw still means they have a six-point lead over Forest, who move up into second place.
