A hotheaded stranger wielding brass knuckles stabbed a Manhattan straphanger on his way to work during the Thursday morning rush, cops and sources said.
The 30-year-old victim was riding a downtown No. 2 train passing through the 96th Street station on the Upper West Side around 7:40 a.m. when the creep tried to pick a fight with him, according to police and law enforcement sources.
The maniac then stabbed the victim in the neck and back – using the brass knuckles that had been “modified,” according to authorities and sources.

He was taken into custody and was not immediately publicly identified. Charges against him were pending later in the morning, cops said.
The victim was taken to Mount Sinai West hospital in stable condition.
