CV NEWS FEED // Pope Francis “is still resting following a peaceful night,” Vatican News reported the morning of March 2 in Rome, sharing the latest report from the Holy See Press Office about the pontiff, who has been a patient at Gemelli Hospital since Feb. 14.

Vatican News’ previous report, issued the evening of March 1, shared that the Holy See Press Office’s statement said that the pope’s “clinical condition remains stable” and “the prognosis remains guarded.”

“He is alternating between non-invasive mechanical ventilation and long periods of supplemental high-flow oxygenation, maintaining a good response to gas exchange,” the statement said.

The pope, according to that update, has neither a fever or a high white blood cell count. He has been able to eat independently and is actively engaging in regular respiratory physiotherapy. He has not experienced any other bronchospasms since he suffered one the afternoon of Feb. 28, as CatholicVote previously reported.

“His haemodynamic parameters have always remained stable,” the statement also noted.

Hemodynamic parameters, or blood circulation metrics, include blood pressure and heart rate.

On the afternoon of March 1, the pope received the Eucharist and prayed at the chapel near his hospital room for about 20 minutes, according to Vatican News.

“The Pope remains in good humour,” the article said.

Prayers and calls for people to pray for the pope continue.

Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, led the March 1 prayers for the pope at St. Peter’s Basilica.

Rosary College, which is in Greenville, South Carolina, shared a prayer on X.

With hearts lifted in faith and love, let us pray for our Holy Father, Pope Francis. 🙏💝

O God, who in your providential design
willed that your Church be built upon blessed Peter,
whom you set over the other Apostles,
look with favor, we pray, on Francis our Pope
and grant… pic.twitter.com/EwWmvMMRuZ
